This week I’m letting off steam by having a bit of a rant at some of the plain daft online marketing mistakes I see. These are the ones that there’s no excuse for. They’re not even hard to put right. So if you’re just a little bit guilty, then sort it quick – I won’t tell anyone……
1. Still having your Christmas offer/opening times/photos displayed in the middle of January.
….or even worse, still having it there at Easter. Then there is the list of last year’s events, special offers which expired days or even weeks ago or the testimonials page last updated sometime around the beginning of the century.
2. Putting adverts on your business website
It looks tacky and unprofessional. Do you actually WANT people to leave your website? For the sake of maybe 50p in Adsense earnings?
3. Abandoning your blog
Don’t just leave it hanging about with a last post dated month’s ago. It makes you look like you’ve gone out of business. Update it or remove it.
4. Tweeting the same thing over and over again.
It’s boring – just don’t do it.
5. Just putting a link in your email newsletters.
This is a trend I’ve seen more of recently – and it’s not a good one. If you’re going to email me “This week’s blog post” then at least entice me. Make me really want to read the article. Give me just a little taster paragraph. Anything less is not only lazy, it’s ineffective.
