In an ideal world you will be wonderfully organised about your blog writing.
Every article will be carefully researched and written. Each one will have a well thought out, keyword rich, title. You will always have at least one article ready to publish so there is no last minute panic.
Does this sound like you? No – me neither!
However dedicated you are to blogging regularly for your small business, every so often there will be a time when you need to post something quick and easy. Whether it’s an impending holiday or an urgent client project, you need to dedicate extra time elsewhere but don’t want to miss a blog update.
So here are 5 ideas for blog posts that you can put together quickly while still giving value to your readers.
A teaser for a new product or service you are working on
If you have something new coming up – a big project, new product range, preparing for a trade show – you can write a very short article to start creating a buzz. It can be as simple as “Just taken delivery of our new autumn range featuring X, Y and Z. We’ll be spending the rest of the week getting everything ready for the big reveal on Monday, but here’s a sneak preview for you”. Then add a couple of quick photos and you’re done.
Answer a frequently asked question
Take a look through your recent customer enquiries and see if there are any questions you can answer, possibly giving a little more detail than you would within a FAQs section.
Embed an infographic
Infographics are still really popular and most designers encourage you to add their infographics onto your website using “embed code”. This is just a bit of code which you’ll find under the image. Find a relevant infographic you like (try looking on Pinterest), copy/paste the embed code and add a short comment of your own to make the article unique.
Using embed code makes sure the originator gets full credit for their work and a link to their website. Please don’t simply copy the image and load it to your own site (it probably won’t look right anyway).
Comment on a news story
It can be related to your industry, or just something that catches your attention. Write a brief summary, link to the full story and add your opinion.
Recommend a favourite website
This can be a great way to show your appreciation of a supplier, client or just someone you admire. Say why you think they are great and add a link to their website.
