For my final blog post of the year, I want to reflect on 2011 and look forward to the new year. I’m sure lots of small business owners will be doing the same – this is the one time of the year when most can switch off the phone, leave the emails and really think about strategy and direction.
Personally, 2011 has been a momentous year. When you’ve created a business from scratch and built it up over 7 years, it becomes a huge part of your life. So selling the Wedding Crafter was a very tough decision. On the other hand, it’s meant I have a more flexible lifestyle. I’ve been able to see much more of my family and do lots of things I never had time for in previous years.
This has been particularly the case in the run up to Christmas. I have written (and sent) all my Christmas cards! We have a Christmas tree. I’ve dug out my flower arranging stuff and made some decorations. I’ve even been baking. All the creative things I love but didn’t quite get round to when I had a creative business.
On the business side, I’ve been working hard to build my network and get Paprika Marketing established. 4Networking has been brilliant for this – I’ve met some amazing people who have, without exception, been encouraging, supportive and friendly.
So what about 2012?
Well I’m really excited about the Social Media workshop I’m putting together with 2 other Yorkshire businesses.
And I’ve got so many ideas I’m not sure where to start, so I’ll be taking some time over the next couple of weeks to sort out my priorities.
Oh – and we’ve got athletics and cycling tickets for the Olympics!
So despite the doom and gloom which the media insist on feeding us constantly, I’m feeling incredibly positive about the coming year. I hope you are too.
With very best wishes for a great Christmas and New Year
