Do you know the average figure for ecommerce shopping cart abandons?
That’s an awful lot of potential sales going missing.
Have you looked at your rate recently? Is yours below average – or worse? It’s not unknown to see abandon rates over 80% so if yours is bad, you’re not alone.
If you’re not sure how to calculate your abandon rate it’s basically:
Site Abandonment Rate (in percent terms) = [1 – (the total orders placed on the website divided by total add to cart clicks)].
So, the proportion of people who intended to buy to those who actually completed the purchase.
Tackling a high abandon rate should be a top priority – there’s no point in spending on Adwords or SEO if most of those hard-won visitors are just walking away.
The main reasons they do walk away are:
- high or unexpected delivery charges (read this article for more about the impact of delivery charges )
- lack of trust
- complicated checkout process
So if you are throwing away sales, it’s time to take action.
